The North Platte Evening and Noon Luncheon Business and Professional Women groups are sponsoring an Equal Pay Day event from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at "The Hotspot," coffee shop next to Papa Murphy's.
BPW groups across the country annually sponsor Equal Pay Day events to draw attention to the fact that nationally women earn 76 cents to each dollar paid to male counterparts.
Over a working lifetime, this wage difference costs the average American woman an estimated $250,000.
The two North Platte BPW groups are co-sponsoring an educational seminar to draw attention to how this pay inequity affects women's earnings and spending ability and her retirement.
The speakers include:
* Lori Jones with the Social Security Administration in North Platte. She will speak on what every woman should know about Social Security, retirement, disability, Medicare, earnings and more.
* Jean Pavlik with Edward Jones willl talk about long-term strategies for financial success for women in "Winning the Rat Race."
* Beth Davis with United Nebraska Bank will speak on building equity by owning a home. She will also talk about the importance of women having a credit history of their own and maintaining good credit.
Jones will begin at 6:30 p.m., Pavlik at 7 p.m. and Davis at 7:30 p.m. They will also be available to answer questions of general interest.
The event is open to the public. The seminar is free but refreshments will be dutch treat.
