During National Library Week at the North Platte Public Library, April 12-17, patrons were allowed to pay $1 in fines for every food item brought to the library.
The Food for Fines program resulted in $2,500 in fines waived and more than 1,800 pounds of food items donated to the local food pantries.
In addition, multiple lost items were returned to the library that week.
