The North Platte Public Library offers basic technology classes to the community. Each class cost $5 and lasts two hours.
Call the library's Technology Learning Center at 535-8036 or stop by the library at 120 W. Fourth to pre-register for classes. Class size is limited to six participants.
MAY CLASSES
MS Publisher, 9:30 a.m. May 2: Microsoft Publisher is a program to create distinctive greeting cards, flyers, business cards and newsletters, even if you have no publishing experience. This MS Publisher class focuses on creating one-page publications from scratch. You will learn about inserting frames and objects, formatting, layering and grouping objects, and the related menu commands and tool bars. Pre-requisite skills: Mouse, word processing, and a prior use of Publisher or other publishing or graphics program.
Beginning Excel, 6:30 p.m. May 6; Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program. This class will introduce spreadsheet design and terminology. We will design a simple spreadsheet and learn about cells, columns, and rows. Skills from this class can be transferred to many other spreadsheet packages such as Lotus 1-2-3 and MS Word. This class is for the computer user who possesses mouse skills and has some familiarity with other software packages such as Microsoft Word.
Intermediate Excel, 6:30 p.m. May 13; Picking up where Beginning Microsoft Excel ends, this class further explores the capabilities of Excel. This class will expand upon techniques for formatting cells, adding and deleting columns and rows, and creating simple formulas.
Using Internet Browsers, 9:30 a.m., May 9; The Internet is growing and changing everyday. This class will introduce techniques used to navigate the World Wide Web including: forward, back, bookmarking/favorites, direct address concepts, and search engines. This class is for those interested in learning how to use the Internet to find information.
Intermediate Internet Searching, 9:30 a.m., May 16; Intermediate Internet Searching will expand on techniques learned in Using Internet Browsers. We will focus on expanded searches, on creating folders, establishing e-mail accounts and contacting sites on the Internet. We will also explore some of the problems that can occur when shopping online and the importance of protecting personal information.
Beginning MS PowerPoint, 6:30 p.m., May 20; Microsoft PowerPoint is primarily used to assist individuals in making presentations. This class will introduce PowerPoint and explore the various PowerPoint toolbars. Pre-requisite skills: Mouse and word processing.
Mail Merge using MS Word, 9:30 a.m., May 23; Mail Merge is a feature supported by many word processors that allows users to create form letters and merge an address books contents into the form letter to personalize the letter. It is also a handy feature when creating mailing lists, labels and those holiday letters. This class is taught using both hands-on and lecture formats. Pre-requisites include mouse skills and basic word processing or Beginning Microsoft Word Skills.
Mouse Basics, 9:30 a.m., May 30; a mouse is a tool used to help operate a computer. It requires hand-eye coordination. If you are new to computers or have never used a mouse before this class will introduce you to the mouse and its language and terminology.
