Low Maintenance Gardening will be the topic of the next Friends of the Library Brown Bag Luncheon at the North Platte Public Library on Thursday, May 15, from noon to 1 p.m.
The speaker will be Ann Bartlett, Master Gardener Volunteer.
Although raised in a community of lovely landscapes, Bartlett developed an interest in gardening only after becoming a homeowner in Houston, Texas. She visited her first garden center and was amazed to learn that one could buy bedding plants. After battling clay soils, hordes of pests, shade, heat and humidity, she finds gardening here a refreshing change.
Originally from California, Ann became a Nebraskan in 1998 after living in the Southeast for decades. A fairly adventurous gardener, she loves pushing the limits of plant selection wherever she lives.
Bartlett has achieved her ambition to become a Master Gardener Volunteer. She serves as horticulture chairwoman for Nebraska Federated Garden Clubs and served that organization as Year of the Rose chairwoman in 2002.
All landscapes require some care. Bartlett will share tips on taking the drudgery out of yard work and ideas for developing low maintenance gardens.
This program is free to the public but space is limited. Please call the library at 535-8036 to make reservations by noon today, May 14. Bring your own lunch or reserve one for $5.50.
