Volunteer Eye Care in Mexico will be the topic of the next Friends of the Library Brown Bag Luncheon at the North Platte Public Library on Thursday, June 5, from noon to 1:30 PM.
This program will be presented by Kim Baxter, a North Platte optometrist; his son, Craig; and Chuck Baasch.
They will be talking about their recent trip to Iguala, Mexico, where they provided volunteer eye care and donated eyeglasses to the poor people of that area.
Dr. Baxter is with Complete Eye Care Associates. He and his wife, Nancy have two children, Craig and Mikaela. Two years ago, their family traveled to Ecuador for a similar eye care trip. Craig, who joined his dad for this years trip to Mexico, is 15 years old and a freshman at St. Patricks High School.
Chuck Baasch joined the group for the first time this year. His wife, Janis, manages the optical department at Complete Eye Care. Baasch has many years of experience himself as an optician and his expertise in this area was invaluable to the group.
People attending this program are encouraged to bring eyeglasses they are no longer using to donate to this effort.
The program is free but space is limited. Please call the library to make reservations by noon Wednesday, June 4, even if you are bringing your own lunch. Or you can reserve a lunch for $5.50.
