Library to host display
of underage military service
Dont miss a chance to see a special display now at the North Platte Public Library previewing Veterans of Underage Military Service.
This is the topic of the July 3rd Brown Bag Luncheon by speaker Bernie Doyle, a former North Platte resident now living in Texas.
This traveling 13-panel display features pictures and stories of many men and women who forged birth certificates and by other means joined the military under the legal age.
One featured veteran, Calvin Graham, was 12 years old when he served with heroism during the battle of Guadalcanal.
The display will be at the library until July 3 when Mr. Doyle will speak on the experiences of many of these veterans. He will include his own story about joining the Navy at age 15.
The program will be from noon to 1:30 p.m.
The program is free but there is a $5.50 charge for those wanting to reserve a catered lunch. Those attending may also bring their own lunch.
Space is limited, so call the library at 535-8036 to make reservations by noon Wednesday, July 2.
