September Calendar of Events for the North Platte Library
Winter hours and computer classes will resume at the North Platte Public Library in September after Labor Day. The library will be open Monday through Thursday, 9 AM to 9 PM, and Fridays and Saturdays, 9 AM to 6 PM with the technology center closing 30 minutes earlier each day. Yes, we will be open all day on Saturdays to meet weekend needs of our patrons. The library is closed on Sundays and major holidays.
The North Platte Public Library offers basic technology classes to the community. The cost of each class is $5.00 and each class lasts 2 hours. Following is a list of classes being offered by the library in September. Classes are offered on Tuesday evenings, Friday mornings, and Saturday mornings as noted below. Please call the library's Technology Learning Center at 535-8036 or stop by the library at 120 W 4th ST to pre-register for classes. Class size is limited to six participants.
Mouse Basics on 9/5 at 9:30 AM or 9/9 at 6:30 PM
A mouse is a tool used to help operate a computer. It requires hand-eye coordination. If you are new to computers or have never used a mouse before, this class will introduce you to the mouse and its language and terminology.
Computer Basics on 9/12 at 9:30 AM or 9/16 at 6:30 PM
This class will address common questions of new computer users such as: "What is the desktop?"; "How do I open a program?; "How do I save documents, create folders, and then find them again?"; "What is defrag and why would I do that?"; and other basic computer questions. You must have mouse skills prior to taking this class.
Beginning MS Word on 9/19 at 9:30 AM or 9/23 at 6:30 PM
Microsoft Word is a powerful word processing program. This class will introduce word processing and its terminology. We will learn about fonts, font size, justification, line spacing and margins. Skills from this class can be transferred to many other software packages such as MS Works & WordPerfect. This class is for the computer user that possesses mouse skills.
Using Internet Browsers on 9/26 at 9:30 AM or 9/30 at 6:30 PM
The Internet is growing and changing everyday. This class will introduce techniques used to navigate the World Wide Web including: forward, back, bookmarking/favorites, direct address concepts, and search engines. This class is for those interested in learning how to use the Internet to find information.
Saturday Morning Classes for September
Beginning Excel on 9/6 at 9:30 AM
Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program. This class will introduce spreadsheet design and terminology. We will design a simple spreadsheet and learn about cells, columns, and rows. Skills from this class can be transferred to many other spreadsheet packages such as Lotus 1-2-3 and MS Word. This class is for the computer user that possesses mouse skills and has some familiarity with other software packages such as Microsoft Word.
Intermediate Excel on 9/13 at 9:30 AM
Picking up where Beginning Microsoft Excel ends, this class further explores the capabilities of Excel. This class will expand upon techniques for formatting cells, adding and deleting columns and rows, and creating simple formulas.
