Women and Aging: A Celebration
by Ruth Raymond Thone
The North Platte Public Library is pleased to announce the Friends of the Library March Brown Bag Luncheon program, Women and Aging: A Celebration by speaker, Ruth Raymond Thone. The program will be Thursday, March 11, at 12:00 PM at the North Platte Public Library and is made possible by the Nebraska Humanities Council.
Humor and gentleness mark this vibrant discussion of how women can be allowed to be old and feel good about themselves and their lives. Thone explores old age as a time for celebration. She believes marking the last third of a woman's life with intention, consciousness and affirmation and action, helps women get beyond the cultural stereotypes and others' expectations. Discussion includes role models of aging, exploring regrets and discovering what goals and work women may be striving towardand not necessarily as caretakers or as women attempting to stay young.
Nebraska native Ruth Thone is a freelance writer, radio commentator, workshop leader and author. She lives in Lincoln with her husband, Charley, a former U.S. congressman and former governor of Nebraska. She is also active in several social justice organizations.
The program is free to the public, but to plan seating, the library asks you to call 308-535-8036 to make reservations by 12:00 PM, Wednesday, March 10, 2004. Bring your own lunch or call the library to reserve a catered lunch for $5.50. There is a choice of ham and swiss or beef and cheddar sandwich box lunches from Quizno.
