Skin Care for the busy traveler - Give your body a home spa treatment
Skin Care for the busy traveler
Give your body a home spa treatment
by E.J. Sulc
For centuries spa body therapy treatments have been embraced for their revitalizing and therapeutic effects. From ancient mineral hot springs to modern seaweed wraps, these treatments detoxify your body, de-stress your mind and revitalize your skin.
Body therapy is wellness oriented and not meant to be "quick fixes" for poor diet or lack of exercise. However, this is a great reward to your wellness program, or a good place to start.
But, chances are if you are reading this column, you are not as close to a spa as you might like to be. So let's make the best of what you have available.

Start with that big porcelain thing in your bathroom -- not the "throne" -- the other, your tub. Although hot water is wonderful for sore, aching muscles, it's not so good for your skin. If the water is too hot, your skin will itch and flake. So do like our role model Cleopatra and pour milk into it. We'll use powdered milk. The lactic acid in milk is a natural exfoliator and will nourish dry, itchy skin, as will oatmeal, but oatmeal is not very good for the plumbing.

How about some cool cucumber slices for your eyes while you lie back and relax? If you would like to scent your bath, use your favorite scented essential oil. You can find these at your local health food store or spa.

While you are out, buy some Epsom salts or sea salts to use the next time you have sore muscles. Salt is a natural detoxifier and will draw out toxins that present themselves as aches and pains.

If you chose sea salts, you've done what's best for your body. Sea salts and our blood's plasma have the same vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Through osmosis your body will absorb the vitamins, minerals and trace elements it's lacking while detoxifying the garbage through your perspiration.

If you have a little olive oil on hand, rub this on your wet skin and let it air dry. Seal it with your favorite lotion and feel it heal.
