Money Matters
Budget for enjoyment

Let's face it, life is hectic. Traveling and entertainment can be a way to get away from the fast pace of today's world. In order to make a get-away possible, whether it be a big vacation or a weekend of fun, it should be a part of your monthly budget.

Many individuals and families find traveling is a time to rejuvenate and take a look at the prio rities they have knowingly or unknowingly set in their lives. If taking this time out is an important priority to you, then it should be incorporated in your budget.

"Often it takes a disciplined approach to accomplish this. Make a plan. Decide when and where you are going to go.

Research your costs for your adventure. Establish how you are going to save this money. You may want to set up a separate savings account and deposit a set dollar amount each paycheck to ensure you have enough for a relaxing vacation.

If your employer offers direct deposit, most systems will accommodate a set dollar amount or percentage of your check to be automatically deposited to your separate vacation account.
Accurate and realistic budgeting and planning are critical components to controlling expenses and "living within means." Infrequent events such as vacations, Christmas spending or insurance payments can catch you short of cash.

To avoid the dangers of cash crunches, you may find your family needs a budget. This process starts simply by making a plan. Begin by keeping track of all your expenses and be as detailed as possible; remember the infrequent events mentioned previously.

If you find your income is not enough to cover all your expenses and you are turning more towards credit cards or loans to fund the shortfall of everyday expenses, you need to either increase your income or prioritize and reduce your expenses.

Set your goals. This goal could be to take that well-deserved vacation, to shop with cash for Christmas or to buy that new car.

Educate yourself. There are many resources available via the internet or not-for-profit agencies that provide assistance for you in the budget-planning process.

Finally, reward yourself. Your travel and vacation time will be more relaxing and enjoyable without the stress of financial worries.
