Cody Park

Cody Park

Perhaps one of North Platte's best-kept secrets is Cody Park north of North Platte on Highway 83.
A life-size statue of Buffalo Bill stands at the park's main entrance.
The park is home to ducks, geese, deer, llamas, peafowl, elk and a variety of other animals. All of them will eagerly approach the fence to beg for tidbits of food.

The park has picnic grounds, camping, horseshoe-pitching pits, tennis courts, and during the summer there are inexpensive rides for children, including an original carousel.
The park is also home to a railroad museum featuring the Union Pacific 3977, one of two remaining 3900 class Challenger-type locomotives and the only one on display.
The railroad display is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 1 through September.
The park is always open.
Fort McPherson National Cemetary Fort McPherson National Cemetary

Fort McPherson National Cemetery is Nebraska's only national cemetery.
The cemetery was established on March 3, 1873. It has become the final resting place for about 7,000 American men and women who served their country, and their spouses.
A memorial section near the main entrance commemorates those members of the Armed Forces who died in service but whose remains could
not be recovered, identified, or were buried at sea or had their ashes scattered.
There are four Medal of Honor recipients buried there, two of them were Buffalo Soldiers. The Medal of Honor is earned by an act of bravery and self-sacrifice that goes above and beyond the call of duty... Read related story
